Today’s readings call us to remain steady when fear rises and respond when God speaks. Saint Kateri Tekakwitha shows us the quiet strength of a faithful heart. God is our stronghold, but we must trust His presence and allow His grace to change us.

The Word
Through Isaiah, God tells King Ahaz not to fear the threats surrounding Jerusalem. Human plans will not overcome God’s purpose. Yet Ahaz must choose trust, for unless his faith is firm, he will not remain firm.
In the Gospel, Jesus warns communities that witnessed His mighty works but did not repent. Seeing God’s goodness is not enough. His grace calls for a response—a softened heart, a changed direction, and renewed faithfulness.
Reflection
God does not promise that we will never face frightening circumstances. He promises to remain our stronghold within them. When anxiety shakes us like trees in the wind, faith helps us remember that fear does not have the final word.
The Gospel also asks us to consider how we respond to God’s work. We may recognize His blessings, hear His Word, and experience His mercy, yet still resist the changes He desires. A faithful heart remains open, teachable, and ready to begin again.
