Some days feel uncertain. We carry quiet worries, unanswered prayers, and burdens we cannot fully explain. Today’s readings meet us in that place and remind us that God does not abandon His people in difficulty. He speaks, He strengthens, and He leads us forward with hope
The Word
In the first reading, the Lord tells Paul in Corinth not to be afraid, to keep speaking, and not to remain silent, because He is with him. Paul stays, continues the work God gave him, and the Lord preserves him through opposition. In the Gospel, Jesus tells His disciples that their grief will turn to joy and that no one will take that joy away. The psalm lifts our eyes higher still: God is King over all the earth.
Reflection
These readings hold together two truths we often experience at the same time: real struggle and real hope. Paul faces resistance, yet the Lord’s presence steadies him. The disciples face sorrow, yet Jesus promises a joy deeper than pain. This is not shallow optimism. It is confidence rooted in God’s faithfulness.
When fear tempts us to retreat, the Lord still says, “Do not be afraid.” When grief feels heavy, Jesus still reminds us that sorrow is not the end of the story. He can bring peace where there has been anxiety, endurance where there has been weariness, and joy where there have been tears.
Today is a good day to keep going quietly and faithfully. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep speaking truth with gentleness. The Lord who stayed with Paul and comforted His disciples is the same Lord who remains with us now.
Call to Action
Take one worry to the Lord in prayer today. Name it honestly, place it in His hands, and move forward in one small act of faith.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, when fear rises in my heart, draw me back to Your presence. When I feel weary or discouraged, give me the courage to keep going. Turn my sorrow toward joy, strengthen my faith, and teach me to trust You more deeply each day. Amen.
