Called to Trust When God’s Time Is Still Unfolding

There are moments when life feels like waiting and moments when everything changes at once. Today’s readings hold both experiences together, reminding us that God is present in silent suffering and in bold new beginnings.

The Word
Hannah carries deep sorrow and longing, misunderstood even by those closest to her, yet she remains faithful in worship. In the Gospel, Jesus proclaims that God’s Kingdom is near and calls fishermen to leave their nets behind. One story speaks of endurance; the other of immediate response—both rooted in trust.

Reflection
Hannah’s pain is not hidden from God. Her tears, her refusal to eat, and her quiet perseverance show a faith that clings to the Lord even when prayers seem unanswered. She brings her whole heart to God, believing that He sees what others overlook. Her story assures us that waiting does not mean abandonment.

In contrast, the disciples encounter Jesus and respond at once. They do not have all the details, yet they trust the One who calls them. Their willingness to let go opens the way for a new purpose they could not have imagined.

Together, these readings teach us that faith takes different forms. Sometimes it looks like patient endurance. Other times it looks like courageous action. In every season, God invites us to trust His work—whether He is asking us to wait or to follow.

Call to Action
Today, offer God one area of your life where you are waiting or being called forward, and ask for the grace to trust His timing.

Prayer

Lord God,
You see every longing of our hearts and every step we are afraid to take.
Give us the grace to trust You in seasons of waiting
and the courage to follow when You call us forward.
Teach us to believe in Your timing and Your promises,
and to offer our lives to You with praise and faith.

Amen.
