Peace in the Midst of Wonder and Mercy

Sunlit garden path near an empty tomb at dawn, symbolizing the peace of the risen Christ.

Today’s readings remind us that the risen Christ meets fearful hearts with peace, mercy, and understanding. As Peter points to Jesus and the Gospel reveals the living Lord, we are invited to repent, believe, and become joyful witnesses.

There are moments when life feels confusing, heavy, or unexpectedly tender. In today’s readings, we see people filled with amazement, uncertainty, and awe. Into that human mix, Jesus brings peace, and God offers not condemnation, but mercy and renewal.

The Word
In Acts, Peter makes it clear that healing and hope do not come from human strength but through the name of Jesus Christ. He calls the people to repentance, not to shame them, but so they may receive forgiveness and “times of refreshment” from the Lord. In the Gospel, the risen Jesus stands among His disciples, calms their fear, shows them His wounds, and opens their minds to understand the Scriptures. He reminds them that His suffering and resurrection were part of God’s saving plan, and He sends them out as witnesses.

Reflection
One beautiful thread joins these readings: the mercy of God meets us right where we are. Peter speaks to people who misunderstood, resisted, and acted in ignorance, yet his message remains full of hope. Turn back, he says. Come home. Be renewed.

The disciples in the Gospel are also not pictured as bold and certain at first. They are startled, troubled, and slow to understand. Still, Jesus does not turn away from them. He comes close. He speaks peace. He helps them see. That is good news for us. The Lord is patient with fearful hearts. He is not waiting for perfect faith before He draws near.

Today’s invitation is simple: bring your honest heart to Jesus. Let Him calm what is anxious, correct what is confused, and strengthen what is weak. The risen Christ still brings peace, still opens minds, and still sends ordinary people to bear witness to His love.

Call to Action
Take five quiet minutes today to ask Jesus, “Where do You want to bring peace and renewal in me right now?” Then respond with one small act of trust.

Prayer
Risen Lord Jesus,
speak Your peace into my troubled heart.
Turn me away from sin and toward Your mercy.
Open my mind to Your truth and make me a faithful witness to Your love. Amen.
