Breakfast by the Shore and Courage in His Name

Dawn over a quiet lakeshore with a boat, full net, and small fire nearby

Today’s readings remind us that the risen Jesus meets His people in both weariness and witness. He fills empty nets, strengthens trembling hearts, and calls us to trust that His name still brings healing, hope, and new beginnings.

Some days begin with empty hands. We work, wait, and wonder whether anything meaningful will come from our efforts. Today’s readings meet us there and remind us that the risen Christ is not far away. He comes near, provides what we need, and gives us courage to stand in His name.

The Word
In Acts, Peter and John face opposition for proclaiming Jesus, yet Peter speaks boldly through the power of the Holy Spirit. The One rejected has become the cornerstone, and salvation is found in Him alone. In the Gospel, the disciples catch nothing through the night, but at Jesus’ word their nets are filled. On the shore, the risen Lord welcomes them with a simple meal and a clear reminder that He is truly alive.

Reflection
These readings hold together two important truths: Jesus meets us in our need, and Jesus sends us in His strength. The disciples experienced both. First came the emptiness of the night, then the abundance of dawn. First came uncertainty, then recognition: “It is the Lord.” That is often how faith works in daily life. We do not always see Him right away, but He is present even in the hours that feel unproductive or unclear.

Peter also shows us what resurrection courage looks like. The man who once faltered now speaks with conviction. His confidence is no longer in himself but in the name of Jesus. This is good news for us. God does not wait for us to become fearless before using us. He fills us with grace as we trust Him.

Today is an invitation to listen again for Christ’s voice. Where you feel discouraged, He can provide. Where you feel weak, He can strengthen. Where you feel overlooked or uncertain, He can make something steady and fruitful out of your ordinary obedience.

Call to Action
Begin today with one simple prayer: “Jesus, help me recognize Your voice and trust Your guidance in one area where I feel empty or uncertain.”

Prayer

Risen Lord Jesus,
thank You for meeting us in our emptiness
and filling our hearts with Your presence.

When we feel weary, strengthen us.
When we feel uncertain, guide us.
When we are afraid to speak,
give us courage to trust in Your name.

Be the cornerstone of our lives today.
Teach us to recognize Your voice,
receive Your provision with gratitude,
and follow You with faithful hearts.

Amen.
