Held Steady by Christ, the Bread of Life

Rustic bread in soft dawn light beside a quiet path, symbolizing Christ the Bread of Life.

Today’s readings invite us to trust Christ when faith is costly and the road feels hard. Jesus offers Himself as the true bread from heaven, sustaining us with courage, mercy, and hope for each step ahead.

The Word
Stephen bears witness with courage even in suffering, entrusting himself to the Lord and extending forgiveness. The psalm echoes that same surrender: our lives are safest in God’s hands. In the Gospel, Jesus reveals Himself as the Bread of Life, the One who truly satisfies the deepest hunger of the human heart. These themes come directly from today’s readings in Acts, Psalm 31, and John 6.

Reflection
Stephen’s witness reminds us that faith is not only for peaceful seasons. It also holds us steady when obedience is costly. He does not cling to anger or fear. Even in suffering, he looks toward heaven and places his spirit in the Lord’s care. That kind of trust is not the work of human strength alone. It is grace.

Jesus then meets another kind of need in the Gospel: the hunger that lives beneath our schedules, worries, and disappointments. We often look for a sign, a solution, or a quick relief. Christ offers more than that. He offers Himself. The Bread of Life does not simply help us survive the day; He nourishes us to live with peace, mercy, and perseverance.

Today’s invitation is simple: come to Jesus before you come to your stress. Let Him feed your heart first. When we receive His presence, we are less ruled by fear and more able to respond with faith, patience, and compassion.

Call to Action
Begin today with one quiet minute of surrender: place your worries in God’s hands and ask Jesus to fill your heart before you face anything else.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, Bread of Life,
Feed my heart with Your peace and strength today.
When I feel weary or tested, help me trust You fully
and place my life into Your loving hands.

Teach me to walk in mercy,
to forgive quickly,
and to remain faithful in all things.
Fill me with hope and sustain me by Your grace.

Amen.
