Steadfast Faith That Seeks the Bread of Life

Dawn light over a quiet lakeshore symbolizing steadfast faith and the Bread of Life

Today’s readings invite us to stand firm in truth and to seek more than what satisfies for a moment. God calls us to a deeper faith that trusts His presence, holds fast under pressure, and looks for the life only Christ can give.

Some days we are tempted to focus only on what is immediate—our needs, our worries, our next step. But today’s readings gently lead us deeper. They remind us that God is not only meeting us in the moment; He is drawing us into lasting faith and fuller life.

The Word
In Acts, Stephen stands with grace, wisdom, and courage even when he is opposed and falsely accused. In the Gospel, Jesus urges the crowd not to chase only temporary bread, but to seek the food that endures for eternal life. He points them to the heart of discipleship: to believe in the One whom the Father has sent.

Reflection
Stephen shows us what a life rooted in God can look like. He does not panic when others rise against him. He remains steady because his strength comes from the Spirit, not from approval or comfort. There is peace in a heart that knows where it stands.

The crowd in the Gospel is searching for Jesus, but Jesus lovingly redirects their hunger. He invites them to move beyond seeking Him only for what He can provide in the moment. He wants their trust, their faith, their whole hearts. That same invitation comes to us today. We can come to Christ not only for quick relief, but for true life.

This is a good day to ask: What am I really seeking from the Lord? His help for one moment, or His presence for the whole journey? Jesus does care about our daily needs, but He also wants to feed us with what lasts—truth, grace, hope, and deeper faith.

Call to Action
Spend five quiet minutes today asking Jesus to show you where you have been chasing what fades, and ask Him to deepen your faith in what endures.

Prayer
Lord Jesus,
turn my heart toward what truly lasts.
Give me courage like Stephen,
and teach me to seek You with sincere faith each day. Amen.
