Today’s readings remind us that the risen Christ brings peace into fearful places and mercy into doubting hearts. In a world full of uncertainty, we are invited to trust His presence, receive His grace, and live in joyful faith.
There are days when our hearts feel shut in by worry, disappointment, or unanswered questions. Today’s readings meet us there. The risen Jesus comes not to shame fearful people, but to bring peace, mercy, and new life.
The Word
On this Second Sunday of Easter, the Church gives us a beautiful picture of believers living in unity, prayer, and generosity. We also hear of a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus, and in the Gospel, Christ enters a locked room, speaks peace to His disciples, and meets Thomas in his doubt with mercy.
Reflection
One of the most comforting truths in today’s Gospel is that Jesus does not wait for perfect faith before drawing near. He comes into the room while the doors are still locked. He comes to people who are afraid. He comes to the disciple who struggles to believe. His first word is peace.
That same grace still reaches us today. We may not carry Thomas’s exact questions, but many of us know what it feels like to wrestle with uncertainty. The good news is that doubt does not place us beyond Christ’s love. He invites us closer, not farther away. He strengthens faith by His presence.
The first reading also reminds us that resurrection life is not meant to be lived alone. The people of God prayed together, shared with one another, and walked in gladness of heart. Faith becomes visible in community, mercy, and daily devotion. A hopeful heart is formed not only by what we believe, but by how we live together in Christ.
Call to Action
Bring one locked place in your heart to Jesus today, and ask Him to fill it with His peace instead of fear.
Prayer
Risen Jesus, come into the closed places of my heart with Your peace.
Where I am fearful, give me courage.
Where I am doubtful, strengthen my faith.
Where I am weary, renew me with Your mercy.
Teach me to trust Your presence, walk in Your love, and share Your peace with others today.
Amen.
