There are moments when doing what is right brings misunderstanding, resistance, or even silence from others. Today’s readings meet us in that tension and remind us that when life feels unsettled, we can still take refuge in God.
The Word
Jeremiah speaks from a place of vulnerability. He becomes aware of hidden opposition, yet he does not take matters into his own hands. Instead, he entrusts his cause to the Lord, the just Judge who sees the heart.
In the Gospel, Jesus stirs both faith and division. Some recognize something holy in Him. Others resist, argue, or dismiss Him. Even in the middle of confusion, His words carry such authority that the guards return empty-handed, saying no one has ever spoken like Him.
Reflection
These readings show us that truth does not always receive an easy welcome. Faithfulness can expose resistance in others, and following Christ may place us in uncomfortable spaces. Yet God does not ask us to win every argument. He asks us to remain rooted, honest, and trusting.
Jeremiah teaches us what surrender looks like. He brings his pain before God instead of letting bitterness take over. Jesus shows us calm strength in the face of confusion and rejection. Both point us toward a deeper confidence: God sees, God knows, and God remains just.
Today is a good day to listen more carefully for the voice of Christ. Many voices compete for our attention, but only His voice leads us in truth and peace. When your heart feels divided or discouraged, return to the simple prayer of the psalm: “O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge.”
Call to Action
Bring one burden, conflict, or unanswered question to God today and consciously place it in His hands instead of carrying it alone.
Prayer
Lord, my God, in You I take refuge.
When I feel misunderstood, burdened, or uncertain, hold my heart steady in Your peace.
Help me to trust Your justice, listen for the voice of Christ, and walk faithfully in truth.
Give me perseverance, courage, and a generous heart today.
Amen.
