There are seasons when doing what is right feels costly. We may be misunderstood, resisted, or quietly worn down. Today’s readings meet us there with a steady promise: God sees the faithful, stays near in trouble, and never abandons those who trust Him.
The Word
In Wisdom, the just one is opposed simply for living in a way that exposes wrongdoing. His faithfulness becomes a burden to those who do not want the light. In the Gospel, Jesus also faces suspicion, hostility, and threats, yet He continues in obedience to the Father. Psalm 34 anchors both readings with hope: the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and rescues those who take refuge in Him.
Reflection
These readings show that truth often unsettles hearts that are unwilling to change. A life rooted in God can reveal what others would rather avoid. That tension is not new. Jesus Himself walked through rejection, misunderstanding, and danger. Yet He did not retreat from His mission or from the truth.
This is a comfort for anyone carrying quiet opposition today. Perhaps you are trying to live with integrity, forgive someone, speak gently, or remain faithful in a difficult place. The Lord sees every hidden struggle. He does not waste your faithfulness, and He does not leave you alone in it.
Lent invites us to stay close to Christ when the path feels heavy. Rather than reacting in fear or bitterness, we can stand with calm trust. God’s presence is greater than human resistance. What matters most is not how others judge us, but whether we remain near to the One who sent us and sustains us.

Bring one hard situation before the Lord today and ask for the grace to respond with truth, patience, and quiet trust.

Lord Jesus,
when truth is costly and the path feels heavy, keep me close to You.
Give me a gentle spirit, a faithful heart, and courage to stand in Your light.
Be near in every trial, and teach me to trust that You are with me always.
