Chosen by God, Seen by the Heart

Soft dawn light over hills symbolizing God’s quiet and faithful calling.

In daily life, we often measure ourselves and others by what is visible—talent, strength, success. Today’s readings gently challenge that habit and invite us to see as God sees, with patience, mercy, and a heart open to His purposes.

The Word
God chooses David not for stature or status, but for his heart, anointing him while still a shepherd. The psalm celebrates God’s faithful choice and sustaining presence. In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us that God’s law serves life and love, not rigid judgment.

Reflection
David’s anointing happens quietly, almost unexpectedly. He is the youngest, unseen by others, yet fully known by God. This reminds us that God’s call often unfolds in hidden places. What matters most is not how impressive we appear, but how open our hearts are to Him.

Jesus carries this same truth forward. By defending His disciples on the sabbath, He reveals a God who desires mercy over rule-keeping for its own sake. Faith is not meant to burden us, but to restore us, guiding us toward freedom and compassion.

Today, we are invited to trust God’s way of seeing. When we feel overlooked or boxed in by expectations, God is still at work, shaping us for His purpose and calling us to live with love at the center.

Call to Action
Today, pause before judging—yourself or others—and ask God to help you see with His eyes and respond with mercy.

Prayer

Loving God,
You look upon the heart and call each of us by name.
Free us from judging by appearances and from burdens that harden our hearts.
Give us eyes to see as You see, and teach us to live with mercy, humility, and trust.
Shape our hearts to follow Your will, and let Your Spirit guide our steps today.

Amen.
