Faith Stronger Than Fear: Witness of Saint Agnes

Symbolic image representing Saint Agnes and faithful courage through gentle light and purity.

Some days we feel small before what stands against us—pressures, criticism, or fear of doing what is right. Today’s readings speak into those moments, reminding us that God’s power is made visible through faithful hearts, not worldly strength.

The Word

David steps forward against Goliath with confidence rooted in God, not weapons. The psalm praises the Lord as protector and deliverer. In the Gospel, Jesus restores a man’s hand on the sabbath, choosing mercy over rigid rules, even when it leads toward the cross. The memorial of Saint Agnes of Rome echoes this same courage—faithful witness even unto death.

Reflection

David’s victory did not come from skill or size but from trust: “The battle is the Lord’s.” His courage flowed from remembering God’s past faithfulness. When fear rises, Scripture invites us to do the same—to recall how the Lord has already carried us through.

Jesus reveals another kind of courage: the willingness to do good even when misunderstood or opposed. His healing act restores dignity and life, while exposing hardened hearts. Love, not fear, guides His choices.

Saint Agnes lived this truth as a young believer who refused to compromise her faith. Her witness reminds us that holiness is not about age or strength, but about steadfast trust. Faithfulness, even in small daily acts, becomes a powerful testimony in God’s hands.

Call to Action

Today, face one challenge—small or large—by trusting God rather than relying solely on yourself. Act with courage and compassion, confident that the battle belongs to the Lord.

Prayer

Loving God,
You are our strength when we feel small
and our courage when fear surrounds us.
Like David, help us trust that the battle belongs to You.
Like Jesus, give us hearts that choose mercy and life.

Through the witness of Saint Agnes of Rome,
grant us purity of heart and courage to stand firm in faith,
even when it is costly.

Strengthen us to do good,
to act with love,
and to trust Your power at work within us.
Amen.
