There are days when small worries feel bigger than they are. We focus on what we lack and forget what God has already done. Today’s readings gently call us back to trust.
The Word
James reminds us that perseverance in trial leads to the crown of life. Temptation does not come from God; instead, God is the giver of every good and perfect gift. The Psalm proclaims that the Lord instructs and sustains His people. In the Gospel, Jesus challenges His disciples for worrying about bread, urging them to remember the miracles they have already witnessed.
Reflection
Temptation often begins with distraction. Like the disciples in the boat, we fix our eyes on what seems missing. We forget the abundance God has already provided. Fear narrows our vision. Faith widens it.
James teaches us that desire, when unchecked, can lead us away from life. But God is not trying to trip us. He is steady, unchanging, and generous. Every good gift flows from His heart. When our “foot is slipping,” His mercy holds us firm.
Jesus’ question echoes in our own lives: “Do you still not understand?” He is not scolding. He is inviting us to remember. Remember answered prayers. Remember unexpected provision. Remember that one loaf in His hands is always enough.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You are the giver of every good and perfect gift.
When temptation presses in and worries cloud my thoughts, steady my heart.
Help me remember Your faithfulness.
Guard me from deception, and shape my desires according to Your truth.
When my foot is slipping, let Your mercy sustain me.
Open my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my heart to trust.
Crown my perseverance with deeper love for You.
I place this day in Your hands.
Amen.
