Today’s readings reveal God’s concern for those harmed by greed and injustice. In Jesus, we see a gentle Savior who protects the vulnerable, restores the wounded, and brings justice without crushing the weak. His name remains a sure source of hope.
The world often rewards power, ambition, and self-interest. Today’s readings remind us that God sees every hidden injustice and remains close to those who have been overlooked, mistreated, or pushed aside.
The Word
Micah condemns those who use their power to seize the homes and property of others. Their carefully planned greed causes suffering, but God makes clear that injustice will not have the final word.
The psalm cries out for God to remember the poor and afflicted. It also offers reassurance: God sees misery and sorrow, receives them into His hands, and helps those who have no protector.
In the Gospel, Jesus reveals how God answers this suffering. He does not seek attention or respond with violence. Filled with the Spirit, He quietly heals and establishes justice. He does not break the bruised reed or extinguish the smoldering wick.
Reflection
We may sometimes feel like a bruised reed—bent by disappointment, fear, loss, or the unkind actions of others. Jesus does not reject us because we are wounded. He approaches us with patience and compassion.
His gentleness is not weakness. It is the strength of God restoring what the world has damaged. Christ protects the vulnerable, confronts injustice, and keeps hope alive even when faith seems as faint as a smoldering flame.
We are called to reflect His gentle justice. This means noticing those who are struggling, refusing to benefit from another person’s hardship, and using whatever influence we have to protect rather than exploit. Even a quiet act of fairness, mercy, or encouragement can help restore hope.

Lord Jesus,
Thank You for seeing every burden and every hidden wound.
Make me gentle with those who are hurting
and courageous in defending what is right.
Keep the flame of hope alive within me
and help me share Your mercy today.
