Daily Reflection by John Scigliano for October 12, 2026

It is easy to postpone a needed change until we feel completely certain. We might wait for the right moment to forgive, return to prayer, or leave an unhealthy habit behind. Yet faith often grows when we take one small step with the light we already have.

The Word

Read Today’s Scripture at USCCB — October 12, 2026

Galatians 4:22–24, 26–27, 31–5:1: Paul draws on Abraham’s family story to explain the difference between slavery and freedom. He urges believers to stand firm in the freedom Christ has given them.

Psalm 113:1b–2, 3–4, 5a, 6–7: The psalm praises God’s greatness and his care for the poor and lowly.

Luke 11:29–32: Jesus challenges the crowd’s demand for a sign. He recalls the Ninevites’ repentance at Jonah’s preaching and the queen of the south’s search for Solomon’s wisdom, declaring that someone greater is present.

Reflection

Wanting reassurance is understandable. When a decision feels difficult, we may wish God would make the path unmistakable. Prayer gives us room to bring those questions honestly before him. But sometimes our search for certainty becomes a reason to delay a response we already know we need to make.

Consider the small invitation you may have been putting off: an apology, a few quiet minutes of prayer, or asking for help with a recurring struggle. You do not need to resolve every question before beginning. A faithful step can be modest and still matter.

Freedom also takes practice. Familiar habits can draw us back even when they leave us discouraged. When that happens, we can seek God’s mercy, return to confession, and accept support from people who care about us. Needing help doesn’t make our desire to change any less sincere.

Respond to the grace available today. Let love, not the need to control every outcome, guide your next step. You can move forward prayerfully, trusting Jesus while continuing to seek wise guidance.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for the freedom you give us. Open our hearts to your wisdom and help us respond to your grace. Give us courage to leave behind what holds us back and take one faithful step toward you today. Amen.
