Today’s readings remind us that true worship must be joined to goodness, justice, and a heart open to Christ. God calls us to seek what is good, while Jesus shows His authority to free what is bound and restore what has been broken.
It is possible to speak words of faith while resisting the changes God desires within us. Today’s readings invite us to welcome a faith that shapes our worship, choices, and treatment of others.
The Word
Through the prophet Amos, God calls His people to turn from evil, seek what is good, and allow justice to flow through their community. Worship is not complete when it remains separated from mercy and righteous living.
In the Gospel, Jesus enters a place filled with fear and suffering. With complete authority, He frees two tormented men. Yet the people of the town respond by asking Him to leave.
Reflection
God desires more than outward religious practice. He wants worship that changes our hearts and leads us to act with goodness, fairness, and compassion. Our prayers should shape the way we speak, serve, forgive, and care for those around us.
Jesus also shows that no darkness is beyond His authority. He enters troubled places and brings freedom. Still, His restoring work may disturb what feels familiar or comfortable.
Today, we can ask whether there is an area of life where we are resisting Christ’s presence. Welcoming Him may require change, but His purpose is always to lead us toward freedom, wholeness, and abundant life.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, open my heart fully to Your presence.
Teach me to seek what is good and act with justice.
Free me from anything that keeps me from following You,
and let my life become an offering of faithful love. Amen.
