When Jesus is questioned about authority, He reveals the danger of dishonest hearts. True faith seeks God with humility, thirst, and openness to truth.
Today’s readings invite us to pause and listen for the movement of God’s grace. Jude encourages believers to remain in God’s love and trust the One who can keep them from stumbling. The Gospel shows religious leaders questioning Jesus while refusing to give an honest answer about John’s baptism.

The leaders question Jesus, but their conversation reveals that they are not seeking truth. They are calculating consequences. Their problem is not a lack of information; it is a lack of openness. An honest heart can receive correction. A guarded heart looks for ways to avoid surrender.
The psalm gives a better posture: a soul thirsting for God. Spiritual thirst is honest. It admits need. It does not pretend to control the answer before the question is asked. Jude’s exhortation also points us toward dependence. God is able to keep us from stumbling, but we must remain open to His mercy and guidance.
Faith grows when we bring our questions to Jesus with humility rather than defensiveness. The Lord is not threatened by honest seeking. But He lovingly resists the games we play to avoid change.
Call to Action
Ask yourself where you may be avoiding a truthful answer from God. Bring that place honestly to prayer.
Prayer
Lord, give me an honest heart. Remove defensiveness, pride, and fear. Teach me to thirst for You, receive Your correction, and remain in Your love. Keep me from stumbling and lead me in truth. Amen.
