Jesus calls the temple back to prayer and teaches faith joined with forgiveness. Our spiritual lives bear fruit when prayer, trust, and mercy remain connected.

Today’s readings invite us to pause and listen for the movement of God’s grace. Peter urges intense love, hospitality, service, and prayer. In the Gospel, Jesus confronts fruitlessness and calls His Father’s house back to prayer while teaching His disciples to believe and forgive.

Reflection

Daily Reflection for May 29, 2026 by John Scigliano

The Gospel brings together strong images: a fruitless fig tree, a temple disrupted by misuse, and a lesson on faith-filled prayer. Jesus is not interested in appearances without fruit. Leaves are not enough. Religious activity without prayer, trust, and mercy becomes hollow.

Peter’s words give practical shape to fruitful faith. Be serious in prayer. Love deeply. Offer hospitality without complaining. Use your gifts to serve. These are not dramatic gestures, but they are signs of a heart alive in grace.

Jesus also connects prayer with forgiveness. We often want powerful prayer while holding tightly to resentment. But the Lord calls us to bring both faith and mercy before the Father. A house of prayer must also become a heart of forgiveness. Fruit grows where prayer is honest and love is active.

Call to Action

Before prayer today, release one grievance to God and ask for the grace to forgive.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, cleanse my heart of empty appearances. Make me fruitful in prayer, generous in service, and willing to forgive. Teach me to trust the Father and to live as a steward of Your grace. Amen.
