Jesus turns ambition on its head by teaching that greatness is found in service. The way of the Kingdom leads through humility, sacrifice, and love.
Today’s readings invite us to pause and listen for the movement of God’s grace. Peter speaks of redemption through Christ and the enduring word of God. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches His disciples that true greatness is not domination but service, following His own example.

Reflection
James and John ask for places of honor, but Jesus points them toward the path of sacrifice. Their request is familiar because human ambition often reaches for recognition before it understands responsibility. Jesus does not simply correct their desire; He transforms it. Greatness in His Kingdom looks like service.
This truth is easy to admire and hard to live. We may serve when it is noticed, appreciated, or convenient. But Christ reveals a deeper way. He gives Himself. He leads by humility. He shows that love does not grasp for status; love bends toward the good of another.
The first reading reminds us that we have been redeemed by a priceless gift and born anew by God’s living word. Because Christ has served us so completely, we are free to serve without needing every reward now.
Call to Action
Choose one unnoticed act of service today and offer it quietly to Christ.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, reshape my understanding of greatness. Free me from selfish ambition and teach me to serve with humility, patience, and love. Help my life reflect Your generous heart. Amen.
