Peter calls believers to set their hope fully on grace and live holy lives. Jesus reminds His followers that nothing offered for the Gospel is forgotten by God.

Today’s readings invite us to pause and listen for the movement of God’s grace. The first reading urges sober hope and holiness, while the Gospel speaks of the costly generosity of discipleship. God’s grace gives strength to leave behind what hinders love and receive what only He can give.

Reflection

Daily Reflection by John Scigliano for May 26, 2026

Hope can become scattered. We place some of it in plans, some in approval, some in comfort, and some in things we can manage. Peter gives a stronger invitation: set your hope completely on grace. Not partially. Not as a last resort. Completely.

This kind of hope leads to holiness. Holiness is not a cold distance from ordinary life. It is a life increasingly shaped by God’s love. It changes what we chase, what we tolerate, and what we value. In the Gospel, Jesus reminds His disciples that sacrifices made for Him are not wasted. God sees every hidden act of surrender.

Grace does not always make discipleship easy, but it makes discipleship possible. When we trust grace more than control, we become freer to follow Christ with joy.

Call to Action

Identify one place where your hope has become scattered. Ask God to re-center it in His grace.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to set my hope completely on Your grace. Purify my desires, strengthen my obedience, and help me follow You with a generous heart. Make my life holy in the ordinary places where I serve You. Amen.
