Reflection

Daily Reflection by John Scigliano for May 25, 2026

Mary’s presence at the cross is quiet but powerful. She does not run from suffering. She remains close to Jesus. In that sacred moment, the beloved disciple receives Mary, and the Church sees in her a motherly witness of faith.

This memorial reminds us that Christian life is not lived alone. The Church is a family formed by grace, prayer, and the saving work of Christ. Mary’s motherhood does not draw attention away from Jesus. It points us more deeply toward Him. She stands where disciples need to learn how to stand: near the cross, faithful in sorrow, receptive to grace, and open to the Spirit.

When life brings pain or uncertainty, we often want quick answers. Mary shows another holy response: remain with Christ. Stay near Him in prayer. Trust that even beneath the cross, God is still bringing life.

Call to Action

Spend a few quiet minutes today praying for the Church and for those who feel alone beneath the weight of suffering.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of Your Church and for Mary’s faithful witness. Help me remain near You in sorrow and in joy. Teach me to pray with trust and to receive Your grace with an open heart. Amen.
