Sent by Christ, Faithful in the Work Before Us

Sunlit path at daybreak through a quiet landscape, reflecting humble service and God’s faithful guidance.

Today’s readings invite us to remember where God has brought His people and how He continues to lead them. In Acts, Paul retells God’s faithfulness throughout Israel’s history and points to Jesus as the promised Savior. In the Gospel, Jesus speaks plainly about humble service, faithful action, and receiving the ones He sends.

The Word
The first reading, Acts 13:13-25, places Paul in the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia, where he begins to proclaim God’s saving work from Israel’s beginnings through David and ultimately to Jesus. Psalm 89 responds with praise for the Lord’s enduring goodness and faithfulness. In John 13:16-20, after washing the disciples’ feet, Jesus teaches that no servant is greater than the master and says that those who receive the one He sends receive Him, and the Father who sent Him.

Reflection
There is a deep comfort in remembering that our faith is part of a much larger story. Paul does not begin with himself. He begins with God’s faithfulness. He remembers what the Lord has done, how the Lord has led, and how the Lord has kept His promise. That matters for us too. When life feels uncertain, it helps to look back and notice the steady hand of God.

Jesus then brings that truth into daily life. He does not call His followers to grand displays, but to humble obedience. “Blessed are you if you do it” is a simple and searching word. It is not enough to admire Christ from a distance. We are invited to live like those who belong to Him: serving, receiving, obeying, and trusting.

Today may not ask something dramatic of us. It may simply ask us to be faithful in what is right in front of us. A kind word. A quiet act of service. A willing heart. A step of obedience. Christ honors that kind of faithfulness. When we receive His way and walk in it, we are drawn deeper into the life of God.

Call to Action
Choose one quiet act of humble service today. Offer it to the Lord without seeking recognition, and let it become a simple expression of love and obedience.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your humility, Your truth, and Your faithful love. Help me remember Your goodness and trust Your promises today. Teach me to serve with a willing heart, to obey with joy, and to reflect Your grace in the ordinary moments before me. Amen.
