Today’s readings highlight the God who invites us to come closer, opens our understanding, and encourages us to move forward with joy. As Philip guides the Ethiopian and Jesus presents Himself as the living bread, we are reminded to accept grace and share it generously.
The Word
In Acts 8:26–40, Philip listens to God’s prompting, meets the Ethiopian official on the road, explains the Scriptures, and witnesses the Ethiopian official’s joyful baptism. In John 6:44–51, Jesus says that the Father draws people to Him and declares Himself the living bread come down from heaven for the life of the world. Psalm 66 responds with praise for the God who hears prayer and shows kindness.
Reflection
These readings show that God is always at work before we arrive. The Ethiopian was already hungry for truth. Philip obeyed, came alongside him, and pointed him to Jesus. That is often how grace works in our lives, too. God prepares hearts, then invites us to speak with gentleness, clarity, and love.
Jesus also reminds us that faith is not sustained by effort alone. We need to be fed. He is the living bread. In a world that leaves many souls tired and restless, Christ offers the life that truly satisfies. We cannot give what we have not received. Before we serve, we must come to Him again.
Today is an invitation to stay close to the Lord and stay open to people. Someone near you may be quietly searching for hope, wisdom, or peace. A listening ear, a kind word, or a simple testimony of God’s faithfulness may become the very door through which joy enters their life.
