Born From Above to Live With Open Hands

Sunlit path with soft wind moving through grass, symbolizing new life in the Spirit.

Today’s readings invite us to a Spirit-shaped life marked by trust, generosity, and new birth. As the early believers shared freely and Jesus spoke of life from above, we are reminded that faith changes both the heart and the way we love others.
Based on the USCCB readings for Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter, April 14, 2026: Acts 4:32–37, Psalm 93, and John 3:7b–15.

The Word
In Acts, the early Church lives with unity of heart and mind, sharing what they have so no one is left in need. Barnabas stands out as an example of encouragement and self-giving. In the Gospel, Jesus tells Nicodemus that new life comes from above. The Spirit cannot be controlled or reduced to human logic, yet His work is real. Together, these readings show that resurrection life is not only believed; it is lived.

Reflection
To be born of the Spirit means more than having religious knowledge. It means allowing God to renew the inner life so that faith becomes visible in daily choices. The believers in Acts did not cling tightly to what they had. Their trust in the risen Christ made them open-handed, steady, and attentive to one another.

Nicodemus struggled because he wanted to understand everything before surrendering. We often do the same. Yet Jesus points to a life that begins with trust. The Spirit moves in ways we cannot always explain, but we can respond. We can choose humility over control, generosity over fear, and obedience over hesitation.

Today is a good day to ask where God is inviting fresh surrender. Perhaps new birth looks like releasing anxiety, offering encouragement, or meeting a need quietly and faithfully. The Lord who reigns in majesty is still at work, making hearts new and teaching His people how to love.

Call to Action
Share one thing today—your time, encouragement, or resources—with someone who needs care, and ask the Holy Spirit to make your faith active through love.

Prayer
Lord Jesus,
breathe Your Spirit into my heart and make me new.
Teach me to trust You even when I do not fully understand.
Free my hands from fear so I may live with generosity, peace, and love.
Let my life bear witness to Your resurrection today.
Amen
