Called to Be a Light for the World

Soft morning light illuminating an open path toward the horizon

Many of us wonder if our daily faithfulness truly matters. Today’s readings gently answer that question, reminding us that God’s call reaches into ordinary lives and carries a purpose far greater than we imagine.

The Word
Isaiah speaks of a servant chosen from the womb, called not only to restore God’s people but to become a light for all nations. The psalm echoes a willing heart: “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.” Paul greets the Corinthians as people already sanctified and called to holiness. In the Gospel, John the Baptist points away from himself and reveals Jesus as the Lamb of God, filled with the Spirit and sent for the salvation of the world.

Reflection
God’s mission has always been expansive. What begins with one servant, one people, or one witness is meant to reach the ends of the earth. This is not about human achievement, but about God’s glory shining through willing hearts.

John the Baptist shows us the posture of true discipleship: humility and testimony. He does not cling to attention. He simply points and says, “Behold.” In doing so, he helps others recognize who Jesus truly is.

We share in this calling. Sanctified in Christ, we are invited to live in a way that quietly reveals God’s light—through obedience, integrity, and love. Even small acts of faithfulness can become signs of hope when they are offered to God.

Call to Action
Today, pray the words of the psalm: “Here am I, Lord.” Then choose one simple way to reflect Christ’s light—through patience, kindness, or truth—in someone’s life.

Prayer
Lord God, you call us before we are ready and send us farther than we expect. Help us to listen for your voice and to trust your guiding hand. Shape our hearts to delight in your will, and let your light shine through our lives. May we point always to Christ, the Lamb who takes away our sin. Amen.
