Sometimes we expect God to work in dramatic or complicated ways. Yet Scripture often reminds us that God’s grace is received through humility and simple obedience.
The Word
In the first reading, Naaman seeks healing from the prophet Elisha. At first he resists the simple instruction to wash in the Jordan River, but when he humbly obeys, he is healed. In the Gospel, Jesus reminds the people of Nazareth that God’s saving work is not limited by expectations or familiarity, and this truth challenges their hearts.
Reflection
Naaman almost missed his miracle because of pride. He expected something impressive and struggled to accept a simple instruction. Only when he humbled himself and trusted the prophet’s word did healing come.
God often works the same way in our lives. His guidance may come quietly—through Scripture, prayer, or a small act of faith. Yet when we resist because it seems too ordinary, we risk missing the grace being offered.
Jesus’ words in the Gospel also remind us that God’s work sometimes surprises us. The people of Nazareth struggled to accept that God was speaking through someone they thought they already knew. Faith requires openness—an ability to see beyond our expectations and trust God’s wisdom.
When we let go of pride and remain open to God’s voice, our hearts become ready for the healing and renewal He desires to give.

Today, practice a small act of humble obedience—pause in prayer and ask God to guide one simple step of faith.
Prayer
Lord, give me a humble heart that listens and trusts in Your word. Help me to recognize Your grace even in the simple things. Lead me in faith so that I may receive the healing and renewal You offer. Amen.
