We all know what it feels like to thirst—physically, emotionally, spiritually. We search for peace, for purpose, for something that truly satisfies. Today’s readings meet us in that deep place of longing.
The Word
In Exodus, the Israelites thirst in the desert and question whether the Lord is truly among them. Yet God brings water from the rock at Horeb. Psalm 95 urges us not to harden our hearts as they did.
In Romans, Paul reminds us that we have peace with God through Jesus Christ, and that God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well and offers her living water—water that becomes a spring of eternal life. He reveals Himself as the Messiah, the Savior of the world.
Reflection
The people in the desert asked, “Is the Lord in our midst or not?” That question still echoes in our lives. When we feel weary or overlooked, when prayers seem unanswered, we may quietly wonder the same thing.
But Jesus sits beside our wells. He meets us in ordinary places and speaks to our deepest need. He does not shame our thirst; He fulfills it. The living water He offers is His very life—grace, mercy, and unshakable love.
Hope does not disappoint because it is rooted in Christ. Even while we were still sinners, He gave Himself for us. The well of His mercy never runs dry.
Call to Action
Today, pause for five quiet minutes and ask Jesus to fill one area of spiritual dryness in your life with His living water.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are the Savior of the world.
Pour Your living water into my heart.
Soften what has grown hard within me,
and teach me to trust that You are always near. Amen.
