As we approach the final days of Advent, Scripture invites us to pause and notice how patiently and faithfully God has been working all along—often in quiet ways, long before the fulfillment becomes visible.
The Word
God promises David an enduring kingdom, not built by human effort but established by divine faithfulness. The psalm rejoices in this everlasting covenant. In the Gospel, Zechariah proclaims that this promise is unfolding at last, as God brings salvation, mercy, and light through the house of David.
Reflection
David desired to build a house for God, but God revealed a deeper plan: He would build a house for David that would endure forever. This reminds us that God’s purposes often exceed our intentions. What we offer Him matters, but what He gives us is always greater.
Zechariah’s prophecy shows that God remembers every promise. What was spoken to David and Abraham now shines like the dawn upon those in darkness. Advent assures us that God is never late. His salvation arrives at the perfect moment.
As we wait for Christmas, we are invited to trust that God is also working in our own unfinished stories. Even when we feel hidden or uncertain, His covenant love remains firm, guiding our steps toward peace.
Call to Action
Today, take a moment to thank God for one promise He has already fulfilled in your life, and entrust to Him one hope that is still waiting for its dawn.
Prayer
Faithful God,
You are the keeper of every promise and the light that breaks into our darkness.
As the dawn draws near, help us trust Your timing and rest in Your covenant love.
Guide our steps in the way of peace, and prepare our hearts to welcome Your saving grace.
We place our hopes in You, today and always.
Amen.
