A Heart That Rejoices and Trusts God’s Promise

Soft morning light over an open path symbolizing trust and joyful surrender to God.

As Advent draws near to its close, today’s readings invite us to listen to voices of gratitude and trust. Hannah and Mary remind us that God is faithful, attentive to prayer, and near to those who place their hope in Him.

The Word
Hannah offers Samuel back to the Lord, recognizing that her answered prayer is first a gift from God. Mary’s Magnificat echoes the same truth: the Lord exalts the humble, fills the hungry, and remains faithful to His promises across generations.

Reflection
Hannah’s act of dedication is both tender and courageous. After longing and waiting, she releases what she loves most into God’s hands. Her joy is not rooted in possession, but in trust. She knows the Lord who gives life also sustains it.

Mary’s song flows from that same place of surrender. She does not boast in herself, but rejoices in what God has done. Her praise reveals a God who notices the lowly and acts with mercy. In both women, we see hearts free enough to rejoice because they belong fully to God.

As Advent nears Christmas, these readings gently ask us: what are we holding tightly? What joy might be waiting on the other side of trust? God still lifts, fills, and remembers His people. A heart surrendered to Him will always find a reason to rejoice.

Call to Action
Today, offer one hope or concern to God in trust, and thank Him in advance for His faithful care.

Daily Prayer

Gracious God,
You see the lowly and hear every sincere prayer.
Like Hannah, teach us to trust You with what we love most.
Like Mary, place a song of praise within our hearts.

Lift us when we feel small or weary.
Fill our hunger with Your goodness and Your peace.
Help us to surrender our plans into Your faithful hands,
trusting that You are always at work for our good.

As we draw near to the joy of Christ’s coming,
prepare our hearts to rejoice, to hope, and to give ourselves fully to You.
We place this day in Your care.
Amen.
