Rejoice and Be Patient: The Lord Is Near

Desert landscape blooming with flowers under gentle morning light.

Advent pauses today with a note of joy. In the midst of waiting, the Word of God reminds us that hope is not wishful thinking—it is rooted in what the Lord is already doing among us.

The Word
Isaiah proclaims a vision of transformation: deserts blooming, the weak strengthened, and sorrow giving way to joy. The psalm echoes God’s faithfulness to the poor and the oppressed. James urges patience and firm hearts as we await the Lord. In the Gospel, Jesus points to His works of healing and mercy as the answer to John the Baptist’s question.

Reflection
John the Baptist waits in prison, unsure, and asks honestly: Are you the one? Jesus does not respond with arguments but with evidence—lives changed, wounds healed, good news proclaimed to the poor. God’s kingdom is revealed not in spectacle, but in restoration.

Like John, we may find ourselves waiting in difficult places. Advent teaches us that doubt and hope can coexist. The invitation is not to have all the answers, but to notice where God is bringing life, light, and healing even now.

James reminds us that waiting is active. Patience forms the heart, strengthens faith, and prepares us to recognize the Lord when He comes. Rejoicing today does not ignore hardship; it trusts that God’s promises are already unfolding.

Call to Action
Today, pause and name one sign of God’s goodness you can see or hear—no matter how small—and thank Him for it.

Daily Prayer

Lord our God,
You come to save and to restore.
When our hearts feel weary or uncertain,
strengthen what is weak within us
and help us to trust Your promises.

Open our eyes to see Your work around us,
our ears to hear Your good news,
and our hearts to rejoice in Your nearness.
Teach us patience as we wait,
and joy as we hope.

May Your peace steady us today,
and may Your light guide our steps
until You come in glory.

Amen.
