Read the Signs of Grace and Choose the Way of Peace Today

Two countryside paths meet beneath golden dawn light, framed by olive trees.

Scripture calls us to live with humility, patience, and love, preserving the unity God gives us. Jesus also asks us to pay attention to the present moment and choose what is right. Today, we can make room for peace through one thoughtful word or action.

“Daily Reflection by John Scigliano for October 23, 2026”.

Life gives us many small chances to choose our response: when a conversation becomes tense, when someone tests our patience, or when we recognize a chance to make peace. Today’s readings invite us to notice those moments and meet them with love.

The Word

Read today’s USCCB readings: Friday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time.

In Ephesians 4:1–6, Paul urges the Christian community to live with humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another in love and preserving unity through peace. Psalm 24 expresses the desire to seek God with a clean heart. In Luke 12:54–59, Jesus calls the crowds to discern the present time and to settle conflicts.

Reflection

Paul’s words describe a way of life that can begin in ordinary moments. Humility helps us listen before answering. Gentleness keeps our words from causing needless hurt. Patience gives another person room to be human, just as we need room ourselves.

Unity does not mean that everyone thinks or acts alike. It means choosing to treat one another with love, even when we still disagree. A sincere apology, a calm response, or a willingness to listen can help preserve the bond of peace.

Jesus also asks us to pay attention. We may read the weather or notice changes in our schedules, yet miss what is happening in our hearts and relationships. Today, we can pause long enough to recognize where peace is needed and what right action is within our reach.

The readings offer a practical invitation: seek God with a clean heart, and take one step toward peace while the opportunity is here.

Prayer

God of peace, give me a humble heart, patient words, and the wisdom to recognize where I can help mend a relationship. Guide me to act with love today. Amen.

Call to Action

Reach out to one person with whom you need to restore peace. Offer a kind word, listen carefully, or make a sincere apology.
