Healing Waters, Steady Grace, and the Call to Rise

A clear river flowing from a sanctuary through a dry land made green by morning light.

Some seasons leave us feeling stuck, weary, or unsure whether change is still possible. Today’s readings meet us there with hope. God’s presence is not distant. His grace moves like living water, bringing healing, strength, and new life where we thought none could come.

The Word
Ezekiel sees water flowing from the temple, beginning as a trickle and becoming a river that restores everything it touches. What was barren becomes fruitful. What was lifeless begins to live again. Psalm 46 echoes that promise: God is our refuge, and His presence steadies us.

In the Gospel, Jesus meets a man who has suffered for thirty-eight years. With a simple command, Jesus does what no human effort could accomplish: “Rise, take up your mat, and walk.” The Lord is not limited by long waiting, deep weakness, or impossible circumstances.

Reflection
These readings remind us that God’s healing often begins where we least expect it. In Ezekiel, the water starts small, but it does not stay small. Grace works that way in our lives too. A prayer whispered in weakness, one act of obedience, one moment of surrender—God can use small beginnings to bring deep renewal.

The man at Bethesda had lived with disappointment for many years. Jesus did not ignore his condition or shame his weakness. He came near, spoke directly, and restored him. Christ still comes to those places in us that feel delayed, forgotten, or worn down. He asks us, in love, to trust Him again.

Lent is a fitting time to let the Lord search the places where we have settled into spiritual paralysis. His mercy does not only comfort us; it calls us forward. The same Jesus who heals also says, “Rise.” He invites us to leave behind old patterns and walk in a new way of life.

Call to Action
Bring one area of weariness or discouragement to Jesus today and ask Him, with honesty and faith, to help you rise and walk in newness.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are the source of living water and true healing.
Meet me in every weary and wounded place.
Give me a clean heart, renewed hope, and courage to rise when You call.
Let Your grace flow through my life and bring new fruit for Your glory. Amen.
