Paul reminds us that God alone brings true growth, while Luke shows Jesus healing, serving, praying, and continuing His mission. When we trust God with the results and faithfully do the work before us, even small acts of service can become part of His gracious work in the world.
We often want to see immediate results from our prayers, efforts, and service. Scripture invites us to remain faithful without trying to control the outcome, trusting that God brings lasting growth.

Read Today’s USCCB Scripture Readings
In 1 Corinthians 3:1–9, Paul challenges the Corinthians to move beyond jealousy and rivalry. Paul and Apollos each served the Church, but neither was the source of spiritual growth. One planted, another watered, and God brought the growth. Paul reminds believers that they are God’s field and that those who serve are His co-workers.
Psalm 33 calls God’s people to trust in the Lord, who sees every person, knows every heart, and remains their help and protection.
In Luke 4:38–44, Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law and many others who are brought to Him. After a long period of ministry, Jesus goes to a deserted place. When the crowds seek to keep Him nearby, He continues on because His mission is to proclaim the good news of God’s Kingdom to other towns as well.
Reflection
We all have moments when we wonder whether our efforts are making a difference. We may pray for someone, offer encouragement, serve quietly, or keep doing what is right without seeing much change. Paul gives us a freeing reminder: our responsibility is faithfulness; the growth belongs to God.
That truth protects us from comparison. We do not need to compete for recognition or measure our worth against someone else’s contribution. One person may plant a seed of faith. Another may water it through kindness, prayer, patience, or example. God can use every faithful offering in ways we may never fully see.
Jesus also shows us what faithful service looks like. He gives Himself generously to people in need, yet He does not remain in one place simply because the crowds want Him there. He stays centered on the mission the Father has given Him. We can follow His example by serving with compassion, making room for prayer, and trusting God to guide the next step.
Do the good God places before you, and trust Him to provide the growth.
Prayer
Lord, help me serve faithfully without needing to control the results.
Free me from comparison and teach me to trust the work You are doing in every heart.
Give me grace to follow Christ with compassion, prayer, and perseverance.
