Daily Reflection by John Scigliano for August 5, 2026

Jeremiah proclaims God’s enduring love and promise to restore, while the Canaanite woman shows the courage of persistent faith. Today’s readings invite us to trust that God still gathers, guards, hears, and heals—even when the answer seems delayed.

There are times when God’s help feels distant and our prayers seem unanswered. Today’s readings encourage us to keep trusting, because God’s love remains constant even when we cannot yet see what He is doing.

The Word

Through Jeremiah, God promises to gather His people, restore what has been broken, and turn sorrow into joy. The Lord watches over His people with the care of a shepherd.

In the Gospel, a Canaanite woman approaches Jesus on behalf of her suffering daughter. She refuses to lose hope. Her humble persistence reveals a deep faith, and Jesus responds with healing.

Reflection

God’s love does not begin with our worthiness or depend upon perfect circumstances. It is an enduring love that seeks us in the wilderness, gathers us when we feel scattered, and begins rebuilding what hardship has torn down.

The Canaanite woman shows us how to respond to that love. She continues to call upon Jesus even when the answer does not come immediately. She does not allow silence, discouragement, or the reactions of others to drive her away.

Persistent prayer is not about forcing God to act. It is about remaining close to Him and trusting His heart. When answers seem delayed, we can continue bringing our needs before the Lord with humility, honesty, and hope.

Prayer

Loving Father, thank You for gathering me with Your enduring love. Strengthen my faith when answers seem delayed, and help me trust Your goodness in every season. Hear the prayers I carry today and lead me forward in hope. Amen.
