Liturgical Day: Friday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

Today’s readings hold sorrow and hope together. Jerusalem falls, God’s people weep in exile, and yet Jesus stretches out His hand to heal. Even in loss, shame, or weakness, the mercy of Christ comes near.
Some days reveal our broken places clearly. Today’s readings remind us that God does not turn away from ruin, grief, or need.
The Word
Jerusalem falls to Babylon, and the people mourn what has been lost. The psalm gives voice to exile and longing. In the Gospel, a man with leprosy approaches Jesus with faith, and Jesus touches him with healing mercy.
Reflection
The fall of Jerusalem is a painful picture of loss. The people remember Zion with tears, unable to sing as they once did. Their sorrow is real, and Scripture does not rush past it.
But the Gospel shows us the heart of Christ. The leper comes close and says, “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” Jesus does not recoil. He reaches out, touches him, and restores him.
This is our hope: the Lord meets us where we are. He sees the places we hide, the wounds we carry, and the grief we cannot explain. His mercy is not distant. His healing hand is near.
Call to Action
Bring one hidden burden to Jesus in prayer today, trusting that He is willing to meet you with mercy.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, draw near to my broken places.
Heal what is wounded, cleanse what is burdened,
and help me trust Your mercy today. Amen.
