Today’s readings remind us that every life needs a foundation strong enough for sorrow, failure, and change. When we listen to Christ and act on His word, He steadies us with mercy and teaches us to stand firm.

Life can feel shaken by loss, regret, pressure, or uncertainty. Today’s readings invite us to ask where our hearts are built and whether our daily choices rest on the Lord.

The Word

In Second Kings, Jerusalem falls, and the people are carried into exile after long unfaithfulness. The psalm cries out for deliverance, mercy, and pardon. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that true discipleship is not only speaking His name but also doing the Father’s will.

Reflection

Jehoiachin’s short reign shows the painful fruit of turning away from God. The collapse of Jerusalem was not only political or military; it was spiritual. The people had forgotten the foundation that once held them together.

Yet the psalm does not end in despair. From the ruins, God’s people still cry out for mercy. Even when brought very low, they remember that the Lord is Savior, compassionate and able to deliver.

Jesus gives us the way forward. A life built on Him is not free from storms, but it is not destroyed by them. Listening to His word is the beginning. Acting on it is the foundation. Today, faith becomes strong through obedience, humility, and trust.
