There are seasons when faith feels simple, and there are seasons when it feels stretched. Today’s readings remind us that the Christian life is not sustained by our own strength. We are sustained by remaining close to the Lord. In Him, we find clarity, courage, and the grace to keep growing.
The Word
In Acts 15:1–6, the early Church faces a serious dispute and brings the matter to the Apostles and presbyters in Jerusalem. Along the way, Paul and Barnabas share how God has brought the Gentiles to faith, and their report brings great joy. In Psalm 122, the people rejoice to go to the house of the Lord. In John 15:1–8, Jesus says, “I am the true vine,” and teaches that those who remain in Him will bear much fruit, because apart from Him we can do nothing.
Reflection
The first reading shows that even the early Church had moments of tension and uncertainty. Questions arose, opinions differed, and the path forward was not immediately obvious. Yet the believers did not abandon one another or give way to chaos. They brought the matter before God and sought wisdom together. That is a needed reminder for us. When life feels unclear, we do not have to panic. We can slow down, stay faithful, and trust that God is still leading His people.
Jesus then brings us to the heart of the day’s message: remain in me. This is simple, but it is not shallow. To remain in Christ means to stay near Him in prayer, to listen to His word, to trust Him in daily choices, and to keep turning back when our hearts drift. Fruitfulness in the Christian life is not produced by pressure. It grows from connection. Branches do not strain to prove themselves. They live by staying joined to the vine.
That also means pruning is not punishment. The Lord removes what keeps us from a fuller life in Him. Sometimes, he cuts away distractions. Sometimes, he confronts pride, fear, hurry, or self-reliance. At the time, that work can feel uncomfortable. But the care of the vine grower is loving and purposeful. God is not trying to diminish us. He is helping us become more fruitful, more faithful, and more free.
Today is an invitation to stay close to Jesus. Not only when you feel strong, but also when you feel uncertain. Not only when prayer feels easy, but also when your soul feels tired. The promise of Christ is steady: remain in Him, and your life will not be empty. His life will flow through yours, and the Father will be glorified in the fruit that follows.
Call to Action
Set aside a few quiet minutes today to abide with Jesus in prayer. Ask Him to show you one area of your life where He wants to strengthen, prune, or grow good fruit.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, keep me close to You today. When I feel distracted, draw me back. When I feel uncertain, steady my heart. Prune away whatever keeps me from deeper faith, and help me remain in Your love. Let my life bear fruit that honors You and blesses those around me. Amen.
