Christ the Cornerstone, Our Peace, and Our Way Home

Stone pathway at sunrise leading through a peaceful landscape with warm golden light.

Some days bring questions we cannot easily answer. We may feel stretched by responsibility, burdened by uncertainty, or simply tired in spirit. Today’s readings meet us there with both comfort and clarity: God is at work among His people, and Jesus does not leave troubled hearts without hope.

The Word
In Acts 6:1–7, the early Church responds to a real need with prayer, wisdom, and shared service, and “the word of God continued to spread.” Psalm 33 turns our hearts toward trust in the Lord’s mercy. In 1 Peter 2:4–9, believers are called “living stones,” built into a spiritual house. In John 14:1–12, Jesus tells His disciples not to let their hearts be troubled and declares, “I am the way and the truth and the life.”

Reflection
There is a beautiful balance in today’s readings. The Church in Acts is attentive to practical care, while remaining anchored in prayer and the ministry of the word. That is a needed reminder for us: spiritual faithfulness is not separate from loving service. God’s work often grows when His people respond humbly, wisely, and generously to what is right in front of them.

Peter’s image of “living stones” is also deeply encouraging. We are not forgotten pieces lying off to the side. In Christ, the cornerstone, our lives are being joined into something holy and lasting. Even when we feel small or ordinary, the Lord is shaping us for His purposes and calling us out of darkness into His wonderful light.

Then the Gospel speaks directly to the anxious heart. Jesus does not shame His disciples for their uncertainty. He meets it with presence, promise, and truth. He is not merely pointing out a path; He Himself is the way. When we do not know what comes next, we can still know whom to trust. When we long to see the Father more clearly, we look to Christ.

This is the hope for today: the Lord is still building, still guiding, still caring for His people. Our part is to stay near Him, trust His mercy, and take the next faithful step He places before us.
