Some days feel heavy with disappointment, confusion, or weakness. Tuesday of Holy Week brings us into that tension. We hear of a servant who feels spent and of disciples who cannot yet grasp the road ahead. Still, God’s purpose stands firm.
The Word
In Isaiah, the servant is called from the womb and formed for God’s purpose. Even when the work seems fruitless, the Lord declares that His servant will be a light to the nations. Psalm 71 echoes that trust, praising God as hope, refuge, and strength from the beginning.
In the Gospel, Jesus faces betrayal and Peter’s coming denial. The night grows darker, yet Christ speaks of glory. Even in sorrow, God’s saving plan is moving forward.
Reflection
These readings speak tenderly to anyone who feels discouraged. Isaiah shows us that a season of weariness does not cancel a life of calling. God sees what we cannot see. What feels hidden, delayed, or wasted in our hands is still held securely in His.
The Gospel also reminds us that Jesus is not surprised by human frailty. He knows Judas will betray Him. He knows Peter will deny Him. Yet He keeps loving, keeps speaking truth, and keeps walking toward the cross. This is holy mercy. Our failures are real, but they do not have the final word when surrendered to Christ.
Today is a good day to trust God with both your calling and your weakness. Let Him meet you where you feel tired, disappointed, or unsure. He can still make your life a light. He can still bring glory from what seems painful and unfinished.
Call to Action
Take one quiet moment today to give the Lord an area where you feel weak or discouraged, and ask Him to make His light shine through it.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
when I feel weak, uncertain, or discouraged, remind me that You are still at work.
Be my strength in the night and my light on the path ahead.
Keep me faithful in times of testing, and help me trust Your purpose even when I cannot yet see it.
Make my life a light that points to Your love and salvation.
Amen.
