There are seasons when the journey feels long and the heart grows tired. In those moments, today’s readings remind us that God meets us not with abandonment, but with mercy that calls us back to trust.
The Word
In Numbers, the people grow weary and complain, yet the Lord provides a way of healing through the bronze serpent lifted up before them. In the Gospel, Jesus reveals that He is the One sent by the Father, and that when He is lifted up, people will come to recognize who He is. Both readings point to the mercy of God that saves when His people turn their eyes back to Him.
Reflection
The people in the desert speak from frustration, and their impatience leads them away from gratitude and trust. That same struggle can live in us. When life is hard, it becomes easy to focus only on what is missing, painful, or delayed. But God does not leave us there. He calls us to look up, to return, and to receive His healing.
Jesus brings this promise to its fullest meaning. He is the One lifted up for the life of the world. Where sin wounds, He brings mercy. Where confusion clouds the heart, He brings truth. Where fear keeps us low, He lifts our eyes toward the Father. Belief begins when we stop looking only at our troubles and begin looking steadily at Christ.
Today is an invitation to notice where your heart has become weary or resistant. Bring that place honestly to the Lord. He is not far away. He is with you, leading you from complaint into trust, and from burden into faith.
Call to Action
Take one quiet moment today to name your weariness before Jesus and ask Him to lift your eyes back to His mercy.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, when my heart grows weary and restless, turn my eyes back to You.
Heal the places in me marked by sin, fear, and complaint.
Teach me to trust the Father as You trusted Him, and help me walk in faith today.
Lift me up in Your mercy and lead me in Your peace.
Amen.
