Listening to the Beloved Son on the Mountain

Golden sunrise over a quiet mountain peak with radiant clouds symbolizing divine glory and hope.

Lent is a journey. Some days feel uncertain, like stepping into unknown land. Other days offer glimpses of light that strengthen us for the road ahead. Today’s readings meet us in both places—calling us to trust and inviting us to behold Christ’s glory.

The Word

God calls Abram to leave behind what is familiar and promises to make him a blessing to all nations. Abram goes as the Lord directs him.

The psalm reminds us that the Lord watches over those who hope in His kindness.

Paul urges Timothy to bear hardship with strength that comes from God, who has brought life and immortality to light through Christ.

On the mountain, Jesus is transfigured before Peter, James, and John. The Father’s voice declares, “This is my beloved Son… listen to him.” The disciples are afraid, but Jesus touches them and says, “Rise, and do not be afraid.”

Reflection

Abram’s journey began with a step into the unknown. The disciples’ faith deepened when they saw Christ’s glory. Both moments required trust. Lent asks the same of us.

We may not stand on a mountain wrapped in radiant light, but we are invited to listen to Jesus in the quiet of prayer, in Scripture, and in daily obedience. His voice leads us forward, even when the path is unclear.

When fear rises—fear of change, hardship, or sacrifice—remember His gentle words: “Rise, and do not be afraid.” The One who calls us is faithful. His mercy rests upon those who place their hope in Him.

Call to Action

Set aside ten quiet minutes today to read the Gospel again and ask Jesus what step of trust He is inviting you to take.

Prayer

Lord, you call us out of comfort and into promise.
Help us to trust your voice and follow where you lead.
When we are afraid, touch our hearts and lift us up.
Teach us to listen to your beloved Son. Amen.
