Dawn Light at the Chapel Door

Soft dawn light shining into a quiet chapel doorway along a stone path, symbolizing longing for God’s presence.

Some days our faith can feel like a checklist—say the right words, do the right things, keep it all together. Today, the Lord gently calls us back to what matters most: a heart that truly belongs to Him.

The Word

Solomon stands in awe, admitting that God cannot be contained, yet still daring to ask the Lord to listen and forgive. The psalm echoes a deep longing to dwell near God. In the Gospel, Jesus exposes the danger of replacing God’s commands with human traditions—honoring Him with words while the heart stays far away.

Reflection

God is near, but He is not managed. Solomon’s prayer is humble: You are greater than any place I can build—yet please hear me. That’s the posture of true devotion: reverence without pretending, confidence without control.

Jesus then uncovers a hard truth: it’s possible to look religious while avoiding love. When tradition becomes a shield—protecting our pride, excusing our selfishness, or letting us ignore real responsibility—our worship turns hollow. God is not asking for polished appearances. He desires a faithful heart that listens and obeys.

Saint Scholastica reminds us that a life rooted in prayer shapes a life rooted in love. Today, let your “rules” serve your relationship with God—not replace it. Ask: Lord, where have my habits become hollow? Where do You want my heart to come closer?

Call to Action

Take five quiet minutes today and pray simply: “Lord, bring my heart near to You.” Then choose one act of love that honors God’s command—especially toward someone in your care.

Prayer

Lord God, there is no one like You. You are greater than all I can imagine, yet You draw near to listen to Your children. Cleanse my heart from empty habits and help me worship You in truth. Free me from clinging to what looks good on the outside, and lead me to love You with my whole heart. Teach me to honor You by obeying Your Word and showing mercy in my daily choices. Let my life become a dwelling place for Your presence. Amen.
