When God Draws Near: Make Room for His Presence

Soft light fills a quiet chapel space, suggesting God’s peaceful presence and nearness.

Some days we feel scattered—busy schedules, quiet worries, a tired heart. Today, Scripture reminds us that God is not distant. He draws near, and He meets us right where we are.

The Word

In 1 Kings, the ark of the covenant is brought into the temple, and the glory of the Lord fills the house—a holy reminder that God desires to dwell among His people. In Mark’s Gospel, crowds recognize Jesus immediately, carrying the sick to Him, believing that even a small touch—the tassel of His cloak—is enough for healing.

Reflection

God’s presence is not just an idea; it’s a gift. The cloud filling the temple shows the Lord’s holiness and nearness—mysterious, weighty, and real. Sometimes God meets us in ways we can’t fully explain, but we can still make room for Him with reverence and openness.

In the Gospel, the people come with simple faith: “If we can just get close.” And Jesus welcomes that faith. Notice how ordinary the setting is—villages, marketplaces, roads—yet grace moves powerfully there. The Lord still works in everyday places, including yours.

Today, consider this: Where is God asking for space in your life? Not perfection—space. A surrendered moment, a quiet pause, an honest prayer. And if you’re carrying any weakness—physical, emotional, spiritual—bring it to Jesus. Even a small act of trust is a doorway for His mercy.

Call to Action

Choose one small “dwelling place” for God today: take 5 quiet minutes, invite His presence, and bring Him one specific need with simple faith.

Prayer

Lord God, You are near—holy and gentle. Fill the temple of my heart with Your presence. Where I feel weak, bring Your healing. Where I feel distracted, bring Your peace. Teach me simple faith to draw close to Jesus today, trusting that even a small touch of Your grace can make me whole. Amen.
