The Word
David mourns Saul and Jonathan with deep sincerity, honoring love and covenant even after conflict and loss. The psalm cries out for God’s saving presence. In the Gospel, Jesus continues his mission despite being misunderstood by his own relatives. Faithfulness, not approval, guides him.
Reflection
David’s lament shows us a heart formed by reverence. He does not rejoice in the fall of his enemy; instead, he grieves with honesty and love. True faith does not deny pain or loss. It brings sorrow before God and allows compassion to speak louder than bitterness.
The Gospel offers a quieter but challenging moment. Jesus is misjudged by those who think they know him best. Still, he does not defend himself or retreat. He remains rooted in his calling. Love continues its work even when misunderstood.
