In today’s readings, Daniel beholds terrifying beasts, blazing thrones, and the Ancient One whose majesty outshines all dominions. Yet above every earthly power rises the Son of Man—coming on the clouds—whose Kingdom is eternal and whose word never passes away. In a world of shifting kingdoms and roaring threats, Christ alone reigns unshakable.
Daniel’s vision opens with chaos—the four winds stirring the sea, monstrous beasts rising in power, each symbolizing kingdoms marked by violence, pride, and domination. Even today, we feel the shadow of such forces: uncertainty, conflict, rising anxieties, cultural tension, and spiritual opposition. Like the beasts, these powers can feel immense and overwhelming.
But in the midst of Daniel’s vision, everything changes.
Thrones are set up.
The Ancient One takes His seat.
Fire flows from His presence.
Heaven stands in perfect order as court is convened.
Books are opened. Justice begins.
And then Daniel sees the One we have been waiting for—the hope of every heart:
“One like a son of man
coming on the clouds of heaven.”
He is presented before the Ancient One and receives dominion, glory, and kingship, a Kingdom that will never be destroyed. This is Jesus—the Son of Man who came once in humility and will come again in glory.
While earthly kingdoms rise and fall, while beasts roar and horns speak arrogantly, the Kingdom of Christ remains eternal.
Jesus echoes the same truth in today’s Gospel:
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
When everything around us feels unstable, His words are our anchor.
When fear whispers, His promises speak louder.
When the world trembles, His Kingdom stands.
And so Jesus tells us:
“Stand erect and raise your heads, because your redemption is at hand.”
Not in resignation.
Not in fear.
But in hope.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Eternal King,
When the world feels chaotic and unstable, help me keep my eyes fixed on You.
Strengthen my heart so I may stand tall, trusting in Your unshakable Kingdom.
Let Your Word anchor my thoughts, calm my fears, and guide my steps.
May Your dominion reign in my life today—over my decisions, my worries, and my future.
I surrender all earthly anxieties to You.
Reign in me, Lord.
Amen.
