Faith That Holds Fast in Dark Times

Soft morning light breaking through clouds over a quiet path, symbolizing renewed faith and spiritual clarity.

We all face moments when it feels easier to blend in, give in, or stay silent. Today’s Scriptures remind us that faith grows strongest when it must stand firm, and God meets us with mercy when we cry out to Him.

The First Reading shows Israel under severe pressure to forsake the covenant. The faithful endure suffering rather than abandon God’s ways. In the Gospel, a blind man refuses to be silenced as he cries out to Jesus, and his faith opens the way to healing and praise.

Reflection

Both passages reveal the courage of perseverance. In Maccabees, some choose compromise, but many remain steadfast even in great affliction. Their example challenges us to hold fast to God’s truth even when the world urges a different path.

The blind man, too, refuses to be pushed aside. He calls out until Jesus hears him. His simple, honest plea—“Lord, please let me see”—becomes a moment of transformation. Faith opens his eyes, but it also opens his life to following Jesus with gratitude and clarity.

Where do you feel tempted to give up or quiet your faith? Today’s Word invites you to keep calling out, keep trusting, and keep moving toward Christ’s light. God hears the persistent heart.
