Christ’s Humble Love Opens the Door to God’s Banquet Table

Jesus shows us the way of humility, while the Gospel reveals a generous host who keeps inviting people to the feast. These readings encourage us to receive God’s welcome with gratitude and, through humble, generous love, make room for others.

Daily Reflection by John Scigliano for November 3, 2026

Our schedules and responsibilities can easily take over our attention. Today’s readings invite us to pause, remember Christ’s humble love, and respond to God’s welcome.

The Word

Read today’s readings on the USCCB website. In Philippians 2:5–11, Paul points to Jesus’ humility and obedience. Psalm 22 praises God among the people. In Luke 14:15–24, Jesus tells of a great dinner where the host welcomes people who might otherwise be overlooked.

Reflection

Jesus does not cling to status or comfort. Paul points to Christ’s humility as our pattern: serve with love, give up the need to be noticed, and stay faithful in the work before us.

The Gospel’s banquet images God’s generous welcome. When the first guests make excuses, the host sends the servant into the streets to invite others. There is still room. God’s invitation reaches people who may feel forgotten or unworthy.

We can receive that welcome and help extend it. A patient word, an open seat, or a thoughtful act of service can help someone feel seen and included. Humility makes space for this kind of love.

Today, remember both parts of the invitation: come to God with gratitude, and make room for someone else.

Prayer

Jesus, teach us to follow your humble way of love. Help us receive God’s welcome with grateful hearts and share that welcome with others. Amen.

Call to Action
