Liturgical Day: Friday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time

Some days, the world feels unstable, but today’s readings remind us that God is faithful even when power, fear, and darkness seem strong.
The Word
In 2 Kings, Joash is hidden and protected until the time comes for restoration. The people renew their covenant with the Lord, and peace returns. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that earthly treasures fade, but heavenly treasures fill the heart with lasting light.
Reflection
Jehosheba and Jehoiada acted with courage and trust. They protected God’s promise when evil tried to erase it. Their faithfulness reminds us that God often works through quiet obedience, hidden faith, and patient courage.
Jesus then turns our attention inward. What we treasure shapes what we see. If our hearts cling only to what can be lost, our vision becomes clouded. But when we seek God’s kingdom first, His light begins to guide our choices, words, and desires.
Today is an invitation to look honestly at what holds our attention. God is not asking us to despise earthly responsibilities, but to place Him above them. The heart becomes peaceful when it rests in what cannot decay.

Choose one earthly distraction today and set it aside for a few quiet minutes of prayer.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to treasure what is eternal.
Fill my heart with Your light and guide my steps in faith.
Help me choose what draws me closer to You.
