The Lord Our Justice Is Born Among Us

Soft dawn light over a peaceful landscape symbolizing God’s justice and hope.

In these final days of Advent, hope takes on flesh. God’s long-awaited promise comes not with spectacle, but through trust, courage, and obedience in ordinary lives.

The Word
Jeremiah speaks of a righteous shoot from David who will reign with justice and bring security. The psalm echoes this vision of a king who rescues the poor and restores peace. In the Gospel, Matthew shows how this promise is fulfilled through Joseph’s faithful “yes” as Jesus, Emmanuel, is born among us.

Reflection
God’s justice is not distant or abstract. It arrives gently, carried in the womb of Mary and protected by the obedience of Joseph. The Lord fulfills ancient promises not by force, but through mercy, humility, and trust.

Joseph stands as a model of quiet righteousness. Faced with confusion and fear, he listens for God’s voice and acts with compassion. His obedience makes room for God’s plan to unfold. Through him, we learn that faith often requires letting go of our own understanding.

As Advent nears its end, we are reminded that God is still with us. Christ reigns not only as King of justice, but as Savior who enters our lives to restore what is broken and bring lasting peace.

Call to Action
Today, ask for the grace to trust God’s guidance, even when the path ahead is unclear.

Prayer
Lord God,
You are our justice and our peace.
As You came quietly into the world, come gently into our hearts.
Teach us to trust Your ways,
to listen for Your voice,
and to say yes with faithful hearts like Joseph.
Remain with us, Emmanuel,
and lead us in righteousness and peace.
Amen.
