“Rejoice with me because I have found what was lost.” — Luke 15:9
Today’s readings bring us into the heart of God’s love — a love that refuses to give up on any of His children. Saint Paul reminds us in Romans that “none of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself.” Our entire existence — life and death alike — belongs to the Lord. Everything we do should flow from that truth. We live not for our pride, our possessions, or even our comfort, but for the One who gave us life.
The Gospel of Luke paints a beautiful image of divine mercy. Jesus tells the parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin — vivid pictures of a God who searches, who pursues, who refuses to rest until He finds the one who has wandered away. Heaven rejoices not over perfection, but over repentance — not over those who never stumble, but over those who, once lost, find their way back through grace.
It is easy to forget this truth in our daily lives. We sometimes judge others harshly or even judge ourselves without mercy. But the Lord’s message is clear: no one is beyond His reach, no one is forgotten. Just as the shepherd rejoices over the lost sheep, and the woman celebrates finding her coin, so God celebrates when our hearts turn back toward Him.
The Psalmist captures this hope beautifully: “I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living.” Even in times of waiting, we are called to be courageous and to trust that God’s goodness is not distant — it is here, within reach, if we are willing to be found.

Take a quiet moment today to think of someone who may feel lost — perhaps a friend, a family member, or even yourself. Offer a prayer that God’s mercy will find them. Then, if possible, reach out with kindness. You might be the instrument God uses to bring one soul back to peace.

Lord Jesus, thank You for never giving up on us. You seek us when we stray and lift us with joy when we return. Help us to live for You, love without judgment, and trust that we will see Your goodness in the land of the living. Amen.
